Justin Erickson
Economic Development and Labor Specialist

For over 15 years Justin has been instrumental in helping a variety of companies find the right state and the perfect city for their expansion or relocation needs. His accurate assessments of labor availability and his ability to structure financial incentive packages have been the keys to success in dozens of perfectly suited site selections.

Justin has proven a knack for going well beyond the available public data and diving into individual job categories to verify the strength of labor availability, which makes his site comparison findings far richer and more meaningful. Additionally, far too many companies underutilize local, regional and state incentive programs because they often don’t know what’s available, how the programs work or simply where to begin. To the contrary, Justin has proven exceptionally adept at navigating these programs and delivering the best possible financial incentive packages for his clients along with a solid workforce to build on.

Justin has a BA in Finance from the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota and previous investment banking experience with 7, 63, 79 and 24 licenses. A native of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Justin moved to the Twin Cities where he worked in sales management and finance for the Star Tribune before taking up sales for Honeywell in Kansas City, Missouri.

Justin’s wife Kelly is a biomedical engineer for Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. They were married in 2010 and currently reside in Edina with their two boys Ben and Sam. When work and family allow, Justin is an avid golfer, enjoys biking, fishing, hunting and “coaching” everything that his boys are getting involved with.

Get to know Justin

  1. If you were a car – what would you be? Why? My favorite – and dream – car is an El Camino. One can dream… It combines the practicality of a truck, but is cool enough for a guy like Santana to be driving one.
  2. What would you like to learn how to do? I love learning new things and next want to learn how to weld. I don’t know when I’d use the skill, but that’s the point – you never know when you’ll need it!
  3. Hobby? I love golf, but feel you cannot have too many hobbies. As such, I love to open water fish, ice fish, fly fish, road bike, sporting clay shooting, woodworking – and those are just a few things. Master of none, I love learning new hobbies and trying to get better at all of them.
  1. Where have you travelled? I dream of going to Scotland to play golf. It’s where it all started, and I feel golf is something to be endured, not necessarily enjoyed, so I dream of playing in awful conditions and it raining sideways and then drinking room temperature beer afterward!
  2. Dogs or Cats? We have a 4 year old rescue dog named Theo. He is a huge coward, but a great dog and the perfect dog for my 6 and 9 year old boys to grow up with.
  3. Hidden Talents? Zero. None. Not even remotely.
  4. When you were young, what did you want to be/do when you grew up? I always wanted to work in economic development with an emphasis on non metro markets, so I’m living my dream! My fallback plan was professional golfer, so I’m grateful how life has turned out.
